I have shared this photo already, but I used it for my assignment. We were to show a photo straight out of the camera and then altered in photoshop....either color or black and white.
I have been reading discussions about the benefits of shooting in RAW. Has piqued my interest.
However the thing that most disturbs me is some talk of losing quality every time a JPEG is opened and cropped or altered in photoshop. So please, those of you that are well versed in PS, tell me what you do. What is your workflow....when you alter. Also resizing......how do you do that and still save the quality of your photo??? Do you uncheck resample when you make the image smaller??? This stuff is giving me a headache.

I've been subscribing (and lurking) for about 6 months now ( I have 3 boys ages 5, 3 and 9 months) and finally feel I have something to contribute!
You are correct. Everytime a jpeg is opened, altered, etc. it's quality is degraded. If you save your files as *.gif, the integrity will remain. If it's a file you think you are going to keep, the first thing I'd do is convert it to a gif and then work on the photo as needed. You can always convert it back to jpeg, but have the comfort of knowing the original remains intact.
What lense do you use? I can not take a sharp picture to save my life!! I love your style and your pictures always look so great!
Thanks Sheila for reading and for the information.
Heather, thanks. I use a canon EF 85mm 1.8 It's a fixed lense, so you have to move your body to zoom in.
Gosh I wish I could help you here. THis is exactly what I need a class in. Let me know if you find out any info about it.
