Memorial Day Weekend

I'm so glad that we rented this little cabin. It was perfect for us. We stayed on Cedar Mountain at Duck Creek. I remember going fishing at the same little lake as a kid. They had this small bridge over the stream that I envisioned getting a shot of all the kids legs dangling over. Instead, I was chasing Brandon all over the place, trying to keep him out of the water and helping the older two understand what patience means. Steve was frustrated with baiting the lines with the cheap character poles we purchased at Walmart on the way up. Lauren was whining because she had to wait the longest and Kyle kept reeling his line in. Shortly after Lauren fell in the water while trying to retrieve a little plastic fish for Kade. Oh the joy. This was not the end of their fishing though. They spent a good 8 hours total trying to catch just ONE fish. Nothing the whole trip. Kyle came home one day and declared, "Dad says we have the Abbott curse." I told them Poppa needs to take them fishing. Someday.

The kids had loads of fun. I was thoroughly exhausted. All I wanted to do was sleep. They fished, explored outside, stayed up late to play Skipbo each night, played in the fire, roasted marshmallows and made smores, played frisbee, and pool in the basement, went hunting for rocks and pine cones. It was nice to be in cooler weather and to let them just play and be kids without having to worry too much about them.

Brandon was hard. He was into everything and there was no high chair. I was never so happy to be home where we could all get back to a routine and the little guy could finally be contained while eating. He did have a birthday while we were gone. Still need to sing to him and let him eat his cake! This week sometime.

Here's a few favorites. I have tons to edit.

That cabin looks so cute and picturesque. What a fun memory for the kids, isn't that whats important. It's always work for mom but they won't remember it that way.

i love the real life description of the fishy expedition- thats LIFE! So refreshing, so real, and soooo much fun- even the frustration is fun in a sick motherly memory way.
