I signed up for a gym membership awhile back. I have not been once. Why does that scene intimidate me? Anyways during my sign up I added some personal training sessions. Dee, the trainer they assigned me to, keeps calling and leaving messages. I am avoiding her because really, she is gonna kick my butt! After contemplating the sad state of affairs in relation to my saggy body, I know I need to start somewhere. Making the cookies I am craving is not going to help. I really want to lose some of the roll that now resides around my midsection. I even thought that it might be fun to run. I cannot believe I typed that. How is running FUN? Anyways because I have this avoidance issue with the gym, maybe I could do some sort of tape at home. The only tape I know of is the old Jane Fonda that Mom used to do and we would crack up because she would say "Don't forget to breathe." Who is gonna forget to breathe? Anyways I don't want anything too serious where I won't be able to walk for a few days. Maybe something to just get myself conditioned and moving and feeling like I can actually walk through the gym doors and do a serious workout. So....what are your suggestions? Let's hear em.
While we are suggesting things, I need a new book. Finished up the Memory Keeper's Daughter. Any good reads? Thanks in advance.

I remember reading how you rode your bike to school with the kids, I was always so impressed by that- what a great way to get exercise! A personal trainer is AWESOME!!!! She will kick your butt, but it will feel GREAT! I would LOVE to have someone help me figure out how the heck to lift weights PROPERLY and what machines would be most beneficial. Maybe thats why you're intimidated- your trainer will get you so pumped- GO FOR IT! And yeah How on earth is running fun??!?! Blahhhh.
Video-Windsor Pilates...looks easy..but man does it kick your butt!! My husband would laugh when I would do it so I made him get down and do it with me....kicked his butt too! :D
Book-Austenland, The Secret Life of Bees, and Eat, Pray, Love are ones I just finished or wanting to read....
Forget those videos... get to the gym. I bet you'll love it once you get in there. You can do it!!
as far as books go... have you read those eclipse - twilight - books everyone loves?
I think you should just go to the gym. I just went back. I don't have a personal trainer but it still kicked my butt. I think that the first week yes you will be sore & maybe hate it but after you get used to it you will feel better & actually miss it if you can't go one day!
And the last books that I have read were the Nicolas Sparks books. And all of those are good.
I'm not much help on the videos. The last, and only, work-out video I have done was Alyssa Millano's Teen Beat one, from the EARLY 90's. :)
Books....I just finished the last book from the Twilight series. I felt kinda stupid getting into it at first. They are so trendy, and about Vampires.......but I really loved them. They are fun books, and HIGHLY addictive. Who would've thought?
Incase Garaghty doesn't see this she has the Twilight book that I'm still waiting to get from my friend, call her up, I told her you wanted it!
As far as videos go, I got a few ;)
I hear ya on the gym thing, I can't do it either, but I'm sure you would love it if you started. That's what people say anyway, :) Though I've never experienced that.
I really like Lift Weights to Lose Weight by Cathy Smith (I think) It good because it's split up in 3 sections so depending on how much you want to do you can spend and hour or 20 minutes.
I am reading I am a Mother by Jane Clayson Johnson and am loving it. It is fascinating to hear of life as a co-host for The Morning Show and how she gave it all up to be a mom. Enjoyable.
k so i didn't say that i first think you totally should just go to the gym...wish I wasn't living the student life and could afford a trainer I'd totally go! But if you don't feel like it or want to stay in windsor pilates rocks!
I read the twilight series and LOVED it...it sounds lame when it's described but you just have to read them! I didn't tell you about them because I assumed you had heard about them already.
go to the gym! who cares what others think, as you keep going, you'll only gain confidence! i need to do the same...i'm determined to get on my treadmill every night. i watch the biggest loser for inspiration. dorky, but hey, if they can do it, so can anyone. good luck!
I went to yoga at LVAC tonight and it kicked my butt, but it was fun. Good luck, you can do it!
The gym totally rocks, and I share your opinions on it entirely. I just think about the awesome (eventual) payoff!
As for books, I am working on The Purpose-Driven Life, and The Diary of Anne Frank right now.
Yeah Heather - start with Yoga. It kicks your butt but builds strength so that when you do go to the gym, you won't be as sore. You can do it! Good Luck!
I am cracking up with the "don't forget to breathe" comment!
I'm reading Peacegiver and it is really changing my heart. It's good.
